Gah!

So, after last night's post I got to talking to - and by that, I mean IMed - JeninKorea (long live her blog!!) and decided to make my way home from the library so she could just give me a call. Anyhoo, I get home around 11:30ish and when I get to my hallway, I find one of my neighbors kind of sitting in the doorway of her apartment working on some kind of art project. If we were in the dorms, this wouldn't be strange, but we aren't. Then I glance in her apt and see that it's pitch black in there.
Uh oh
I get to my place and it's also pitch black. Light on the VCR is off... everything. This can't be! The power can't be out! I have to write a paper!!!
So, I ask my neighbor and she says that it's been out for about an hour now. She said that the transformer out back was sparking after the storm... what storm? I knew nothing of a storm. Okay, I had been at work since 6, but I didn't notice any storm. The customers usually come in with their wet umbrellas or mention something about it...
Whatever. So, I ask if she called anyone, and she says she talked to the Columbus dept of something or other and they're closed.
No, no... I will wake someone up! I'm gettin' someone out of bed!!
So, I call the actual power company (who was wide awake!), and they say that they're gonna send someone out to work on it. The estimated restoration of power should be by one o'clock.
Okay, I can live with that.
I light every candle I own, which made for decent lighting, and call my mom. I'm a wuss, I need my mom. Luckily she was up watching CSI, but my dad was out cold, so I couldn't get his professional opinion. But mom made me feel a bit better.
Then Jen called and we chatted for a bit. She's 13 hours ahead of me, so she ditched me to go hang out with someone else, and I was left in the dark. Quite literally. I tried reading by candle light for a bit, but my ADHD took over and I couldn't concentrate. Once o'clock came and went and still no power. Okay, it was like 1:01 and I called the power company back. The lady said the new restoration time is by 2:30. Gah!
So I IMed Monica from my cell phone. She humored me for a bit, which was nice of her. And while I was chatting with her... the power came back on!!! Woohoo! I let Monica know, so she urges me to watch Wonder Showzen.
No, no, no, I say. Must write paper! It's due in 12 hours!
Okay fine, she says, write your paper.
So, I try to read for ten more minutes but end up going to bed.
And here I am, in the computer lab at the union trying to get this paper done... which I don't understand anyway. So, I frantically email my prof. and ask if I can turn it in via email tonight.
Bless his little Tajik heart, he says yes!
All is well in MariaLand.
